About Northern Michigan Travel Guide
Northern Michigan Travel Guide was created to help visitors experience the region with confidence, clarity, and local insight — without overplanning or relying on generic recommendations.
This site is designed for people who want to make the most of their time in Northern Michigan, whether they’re visiting for a weekend, planning a longer stay, or organizing a special event.
Rooted Here — With Perspective
I was born and raised in Boyne Falls, and Northern Michigan has always been home. After spending a decade living on the East Coast and experiencing big-city life, I returned with a deeper appreciation for the pace, seasons, and character of this region — and for how differently it can feel to someone visiting for the first time.
That perspective — both local and outside — shapes how I approach planning and guidance today.
A Background in Hospitality & Logistics
Hospitality, logistics, and coordination have shaped my work for most of my adult life — both in Northern Michigan and beyond.
In Northern Michigan, I’ve held a wide range of roles at Boyne Mountain Resort in Boyne Falls, working through every dining room position and eventually serving as Dining Room Manager at Forty Acres. I also worked at the Inn at Bay Harbor as a Café Supervisor, supporting events, service, and wedding-related operations.
Most recently, I worked with Sunset Premier Shuttle in Petoskey as a Reservations Specialist, coordinating transportation for weddings, private events, airport travel, and visitors throughout Michigan. That behind-the-scenes role offered a clear view of how timing, logistics, and local knowledge directly impact the guest experience.
From 2005 to 2011, I lived on the East Coast, working in hospitality and logistics roles in New York and Philadelphia, including private club hospitality and positions as a Logistics Specialist and Freight Broker. Those experiences strengthened my ability to plan, coordinate, and problem-solve — skills that now inform how I guide visitors through Northern Michigan.
Why Northern Michigan Travel Guide Exists
Across every role, one pattern remained consistent: people genuinely enjoy Northern Michigan, but often feel unsure about what to do beyond the resort, restaurant, or event they came for.
Guests frequently asked the same questions — which towns to explore, where to eat, how to plan around weather and seasons, how to move between places, and how to experience more of the region without feeling overwhelmed or wasting time.
That gap between being here and knowing how to experience the area well is what led me to create Northern Michigan Travel Guide.
